Data & delays
Momentum Screener combines stable end-of-day rankings with current-session market context. Those surfaces do not all update at the same time, so a price can move during the day while its momentum rank and the order of the screener remain unchanged.
The short version
| Surface | When it updates | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Momentum scores and strategy ranks | After the relevant market closes and the completed dataset is processed | The latest completed end-of-day comparison of eligible securities. |
| Screener order and filters | When a new ranking dataset is published or you change the active view | The order remains based on the completed ranking run; current-session prices do not reorder it. |
| Table price and daily change | May update during the current session when a newer snapshot is available | Current-session context that can be newer than the rank shown on the same row. |
| 1D and 5D charts | May include current-session intraday bars when available | A closer view of the active session, not an intraday momentum ranking. |
| Longer-term charts and research statistics | As their underlying daily or provider datasets are refreshed | Historical context whose latest available date can vary by dataset and instrument. |
Why the ranking stays end-of-day
Every eligible security needs to be measured against the same completed session. Mixing unfinished intraday moves into the ranking engine would make the comparison unstable and inconsistent with historical ranks and backtests.
End-of-day ranking updates
Momentum scores and ranks are recalculated once for each relevant completed trading session. Processing begins after the market closes and can continue while prices, corporate actions, and required reference data are validated.
There is no guaranteed publication minute. Market holidays, provider availability, the size of the update, and data corrections can change when a completed ranking run becomes available. Until then, the product continues to show the most recent successfully processed ranking dataset.
The date shown with the rankings identifies the market data through which the current result was calculated.
Current-session table values
When a newer current-session snapshot is available, the table can show an updated price and calculate its daily-change value from the previous completed close. This gives you fresher browsing context without changing the underlying momentum calculation.
As a result, one row can legitimately contain:
- A strategy rank calculated after the previous completed market close
- A table order based on that completed ranking run
- A newer current-session price and daily-change value
The updated price does not cause the row to move. Filters and result limits continue to operate on the latest completed ranking data until the next ranking run is published.
Intraday charts
The 1D and 5D chart views can include current-session intraday bars when the required data is available. Longer chart views primarily use completed daily history and may append newer context where supported.
Intraday availability, interval, extended-hours coverage, and latency vary by market, instrument, provider, and time of day. A value described as live or current-session should not be interpreted as an exchange-direct, guaranteed real-time quote. Data can arrive late, contain gaps, or be revised after the session.
Use the intraday chart to understand what is happening now. Use the ranked table to understand where a security stood in the latest completed systematic comparison.
Coverage by plan and screener
Coverage depends on the selected plan, market, screener, and the data available for an individual instrument.
- Free provides current S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 momentum rankings with the published Free result limits.
- Core expands momentum coverage to the full eligible U.S. stock universe and its published Core result limits.
- Edge adds configurable result counts, advanced filters, and supported additional asset-class screeners and research tools.
- Desk can include separately scoped data access and research workflows for professional users.
The product currently includes research surfaces for U.S. stocks, dividend-focused equities, ETFs and funds, digital currencies, and Forex. Not every field, history length, or screener capability is available for every asset class. The Pricing page is the source of truth for current plan access and limits.
Listings and eligible universes change over time. New listings may need sufficient history before a momentum strategy can evaluate them, and delisted or reclassified instruments can remain visible in historical research where appropriate.
Data sources
Momentum Screener primarily uses EOD Historical Data (EODHD) for market prices, corporate actions, reference data, and supported company or instrument information. CoinGecko supplies supplemental metadata for mapped digital currencies, such as categories and platform information; it is not the sole source of crypto pricing used by the screener.
We transform provider data into rankings, historical comparisons, and research statistics. Different datasets can have different update schedules, and a provider correction can require us to reprocess affected results.
Corporate actions and corrections
Adjusted price history is used where appropriate so splits, dividends, and related corporate actions can be reflected in calculations. Symbol changes, delistings, late prints, and provider corrections can also require reconciliation.
We monitor the pipeline for stale prices, suspicious values, missed corporate actions, and incomplete updates. When a source issue is confirmed, affected data and derived results may be corrected and reprocessed. Historical values can therefore change after their initial publication.
Data limitations
- Market data and analytics are provided as-is and may be delayed, incomplete, inaccurate, or unavailable.
- Current-session snapshots and intraday bars can lag the market and are not guaranteed for every instrument.
- Exchange schedules, holidays, extended-hours sessions, and instrument-specific trading calendars affect availability.
- Corporate-action and classification changes can temporarily produce differences between current and historical views.
- Provider outages or corrections can delay a refresh or change previously published values.
- Displayed prices and analytics are research information, not executable quotes.
Spotted something unexpected?
If a ticker appears stale, a split looks incorrect, or a current-session value conflicts with the chart, send the symbol, page URL, and a screenshot through the contact page. We can distinguish expected timing differences from a data issue and reprocess confirmed problems.
